America’s Banned Books – Farenheit 451 In Effect

Thanks to Cory at Boing Boing, I’ve stumbled over the American Library Associations top banned books for 2003. Nothing like stoppping subversive ideas and “Terrorists Under The Bed.” Here’s some of the evil books.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Mark Twain)
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Mark Twain)
All seven Harry Potter books (J K Rowling)
The Catcher In The Rye (J D Sallinger)
The Colour Purple (Alice Walker)
Earth’s Children series (Jean Auel)
The Witches (Roald Dahl)
James and the Giant Peach (Roald Dahl again), what next, not showing “You Only Live Twice” on Network TV?
What’s Happening to my Body? Book for Girls: A Growing-Up Guide for Parents & Daughters (Lynda Madaras)
What’s Happening to my Body? Book for Boys: A Growing-Up Guide for Parents & Sons (Lynda Madaras)
Asking About Sex and Growing Up (Joanna Cole)
Carrie (Stephen King) so no horror or facts on puberty, then.
Cujo (Stephen King), spoiling a really good Spaced joke.
To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee )
Brave New World (Aldous Huckley)
Lord of the Flies (William Golding)
Private Parts (Howard Stern) a man striving for his dreams when everyone says he can’t?
Mommy Laid An Egg (Babette Cole ) helping young children understand their Mummy being pregnant
Where’s Wally/Waldo? (Martin Hanford) maybe they need to do “Where’s Osama” instead?

As Bill Hicks said, “sit down, shut up, watch American Gladiators, your Government is in Control.” Seesh.
