Home Again – Time To Plan For Palmsource Dev Con

Etech is definitly over, I’m at home, waiting to see just how bad Eastbound jetlag is going to hit me this time. Up next (at least in terms of travelling) is going to be the Palmsource Developer Conference in San Joes at the end of MP3. Here comes the banner…

Palmsource Dev Con

..I’ll be covering the conference for The Mobiles Podcast along with a few other sites. Having been at the European version of the Palmsource DevCon in Septermber 2003, I’m looking forward a much larger conference. This conference is going to be pretty key to Palmsource. While the Treo 600 and Treo 650 doing well on a number of networks, and new partners and phones signed up and launched, all would seem well. But there are a huge number of stormclouds as well. PalmOne need to have some new PDA models that rival the Treo. The relationship between PalmOne and Palmsource needs to be incredibly strong for Palmsource to survive. And pretty much every market analyst needs to be convinvced that they’re around for the long term.

Do we want a two horse race (Symbian and Microsoft), or will we have a strong triumverate (include Palmsource with Symbian and Microsoft). The DevCon will put Palmsource on show, and everyone is going to be extrapolating the future of the smartphone race. Talk about pressure on the opening keynotes…
