Mash-ups: Music Around The Web
You know, Jazz Musician Humphrey Lyttleton has a lot to answer for. Over the years, he’s consistently tried to get the idea of a simple new musical genre into our heads, and invariably fails. Here’s one of his more gentle attempts:
It is hard to explain the rules of this particular game, involving as it does the combination of the lyrical or rhythmic component of one piece of music, with the libretto of another; the couplets of the latter being matched to the cadences of the accompaniment to the former in order to create a new, and occasionally harmonious, whole.

Yes, it’s “One Song To The Tune Of Another.” For example, did you know that Jeremy Hardy, excels in the fusion of the words of I Am Sixteen Going on Seventeen from The Sound of Music and the tune of House of the Rising Sun? Trust the internet to take a simple idea and run it to it’s logical conclusion… the Mash-Up
Look I know it’s much more technical than the above description. Having cued up a few mash-up over the last week and generally digging around to find some really good placed, the skill involved in this must take forever to perfect – which is as it should be. If you’ve got a few minutes today, call up the Mash-Up of the Week Podcast which has some fantastic traks and really showcases some talent. And then you can start googling for more…

I’m sorry, I haven’t a clue…

Best wishes
