Cory Removes his Safety Net and Goes It Alone

Cory Doctorow’s quit his day job. Good for Cory. It’s a scary step, because even when you reckon you’ve got solid income there’s still a little edge of danger to it.

What I can say is I did the same thing back in August 2004, and have never looked back. It’s a better quality of life, it’s much more flexible, and doing something you love makes working worthwhile. I’d recommend it to everyone. Of course it’s always an easy decision to make when you have a good website with advertising behind you (in Cory’s case Boing Boing – in my case All About Symbian), and you have other sources of income from a back catalouge of novels, but there’s still that final step to take – rather like a bungee jump. But it’s worth doing.
