The Little Green Bag of BarCampLA
Fun, in a relaxing, almost stress-free way, would be the best way to describe BarCampLa, which happened this Sunday, the day before ETech. The warehouse / loft /stuid of Little Radio, in downtown LA, would be the perfect setting for replicating Reservoir Dogs.
It’s a lovely un-conference space, with a large main room and two side rooms. I say rooms, it was much mroe open plan. I set up the podcasting ‘studio’ towards the front of the building (in the sunlight) and started the recording. In total there are twelve recordings. They’re up at The Tech Conference Show over at TPN The Podcast Network.
I’m not going to spoil all the conversations, but every one of them has stuff I want to follow up when I get back to Scotland, but if you;ve only time to pick out one interview to listen to, then I’ll direct you towards the 35 minute interview with Jason Calacanis, of Weblogs, inc. I started it with plans for a ten minute interview on what large companies can take out of events like BarCampLA (and that would still be a good interview) but once it started, Calacanis seemed to be on a roll with the history of Weblogs, inc. and a number of stories certainly I had never heard.
I watch Michael Parkinson, and when he was Billy Connolly on, he literally goes “Hi Billy, how’s life” and leaves the Big Yin to rant away. In the same vein, I wasn’t stopping the flow of Calacanis either. So I spent the interview watching the minidisc fill up, the occassionaly nudge to open new areas, and the result is the podcast.
