An Idea For the OLPC $100 Computer

Let’s face it, the idea of a $100 computer in the hands of millions of children around the world, closing the digital divide, quite frankly, is more exciting to me than the Apple iNewton phone. What surprises me is they’re not sure if they’ll offer these little beauties at retail for people (like me) to buy one.

Quite frankly, they shuold, but let’s be a little bit more clear in our thinking. Rather than charge me £100, why not charge me $200. For that I get my OLPC, and I also get a thank-you note that says I have bought a second OLPC and it is now being shipped to a child that needs it. Rather like sponsoring an endagered animal for the 2.0 generation.

And with all the geeks in the world buying them up, surely the bulk will drop the cost down even more?
