The Best Dressed Pirate In Austin
What a great/strange/awesome way to spend my last full day in Austin. Thanks to Ain’t It Cool, I and another hundred pirate fans attended a special screening of “Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl,” which was followed by the first airing of the trailer for the third Pirates Film (‘At Worlds’ End’). Part of the event saw Harry Knowles working out how to give away some Pirate Prizes, and that meant a ‘Best Dressed Pirate’ costume.
Now me being me, I’ve managed to find my appropriatly frilled and ruffed Jon Pertwee style shirt to go with the kilt, so I look vaugly piratical. But you know someting? “Think like a pirate, and you will be a pirate.” So throught Harry’s trials and general fun, I came out on top as Best Pirate. Maybe it had something to do with the Connery’esque growl, the Highlander style introduction, the cool shades…
…no – to be a pirate you must think like a pirate (a bit like ‘must think in Russian’). It’s more than just wearing what Johnny Depp wears on screen, you need to swagger. You need style. You need to dive into the crowd and throw a busty wench over your shoulder and drag her to the stage, while leading the audience in an ahhrrrrrr-apshody of ‘talk like a pirate.’ You need their heart to believe your heart.
Yaaar!

So what did you win?
Yaaaharrr!! He won a wench and a statue of *her* wench, Captain Jack Sparrow. But, Cap’n Jack is to be auctioned off for a very good cause.
*Ahem* Whose ruffled shirt? :P
Given it’s the black one from Whitby, that would be mine…
