Did I Miss A Facebook Memo on Messages
So I’ve just spotted a Facebook “You Got Mail!” message in in my regular email inbox (and yes, I even hear a crappy AOL style voice in my head when I type it…) and it took me a minute to recall why I felt I had missed something.
And there it was. In the body of the email, wasn’t just a link back to my Facebook Message Box, but the actual contents of the message was in the message alert. I didn’t need to click through and rack up another page-view on Facebook to read a message!
I recall this one of the things that I (and others) found distasteful about how Facebook acted. So did I miss the memo that this ‘feature’ had been added in all the fun and games in a teacup last week with Scoble et al? Or has this been there for a while and nobody talks to me in that special way anymore?

I seem to remember reading about this, somewhere, perhaps a couple of months ago. It was suggested it was a sign fb was starting to buckle under the ‘walled garden’ criticisms.
I noticed this a few weeks ago. Personally it’s great as I can check out messages and wall posts within Gmail at work and not have to load up Facebook.
As for announcements, I can’t remember seeing any from FB about this or any other implementation apart from when they added the applications support.

p.s. loving the new theme, I’m also trying to move away from Hemingway.
