Daffy Duck says Today is Twitter Cartoon Day
Apparantly today is going to be Twitter Cartoon Day, with the rather splendidly simple idea of changing your avatar over to your favourite cartoon character. Would there be any doubt that I would go for the enternally optimistic, full of wacky ideas, Daffy Duck?
I find it interesting that Twitter is a place where the altering of avatars is seen as another way to communicate. The Colour Wars (which not surprisingly has fizzled into a tight clique somewhere over there….) was one of the most obvious, but the recent ‘birthday present’ to Chris Brogan of having all his friends turn their avatars to a picture of Chris is another example.
And I’m sure the psychologists will have a field day discussing who choose what and second guessing their reasons. What does the choice of Benny from Top Cat say about someone?
The thing about avatars is that I’m starting to sour on all the variations on the game. Why? Because if we worked hard at it, we could have a different avatar every day of the week, and then we won’t really ever be representing ourselves, eh?
So maybe I’m being sour or something, but I’m less into the avatars lately. Unless it’s my birthday. : )
Chris, I partly agree with you, and this is coming from someone that works hard to have a consistent avatar across all services – and I see that others mostly do the same. So the interesting thing for me is why on Twitter it seems we’re more happy to express ourselves differently by changing the avatars?
