Nokia Giving Away EA’s FIFA 2008 for N-Gage Gamers
Who wants a free copy of Electronic Arts FIFA 2008?
The only catch, if you can call it a catch, is that it’s part of Nokia’s N-Gage gaming system. Those of you with Nokia N95’s N95 8GB, N81’s or N82’s can get a free copy of the hit game by visting play.n-gage.com. Those new to the N-Gage platform can download the client (via computer or mobile phone) and then get the game, existing users get a link to download the licence key file.
It’s not the free demo, although there is one available (Nokia are making a free demo version of every N-Gage titlte available) – it’s the full game. Every sliding tackle, humiliating defeat at the jaws of victory and sense of destroyed expectation. Or maybe that’s just me because I insist on playing as the Scottish national team.
There’s no word on the exact number of free copies that are being released, but it appears the UK has 20,000 licences being made available, and you have to expect other territories to have similar numbers. Given there are 13 listed on the landing page, would it be fair to guesstimate a quarter of a million copies are being ‘electronically’ shipped?
(Update, 22nd April, Nokia.com’s front page is reporting 120,000 copies, so an eight of a million then)
Whatever the number this is a good PR move from Nokia – it’s also worth pointing out that the whole transaction can be performed just on your mobile phone. As well as showing a well respected gaming title on the device, Nokia are also reinforcing the message that distribution, via the platform, doesn’t need a PC, or cables, or complicated hoops. It just works.

Sorry for a silly question.
I cannot find anywhere on the Nokia web-site a mention of 120000 giveaway copies of FIFA.
Could you please post a link to this official info?
Ann, there was a popout graphic on the front of Nokia UK last weekend, which I took as the confirmation of the number, and the N-gage.com esite, in the Showroom, still has a smaller version of the graphic with the same number.
