Dopplr’s Personal Annual Reports Go Viral
A nice touch from Dopplr, the social network that collates your journeys around the world (such as visiting conferences like SXSW), lets you know which of your friends will be close to you when travelling, and then doing interesting thing with your data.
Their latest one, an Annual Report for an individual traveller, looks at your data for 2008 and brings out some fun facts along the useful stuff….
- I travelled 18% of the distance to the moon.
- I spent 52 days travelling.
- I spent most of my travelling time in Austin.
- I used 79% of the carbon that a Hummer Truck uses in a year.
- My ‘personal velocity’ was 4.7 mph… which is about the same as a duck.
It’s also perfect blogging material for people who receive the report, and that gives Dopplr a viral-like spread of the news and some good linkage. Which I’m happy to oblige!
If you’re looking for me on Dopplr (and haven’t worked out it’s listed on the right column of the blog) then you can see my travels here.

Ah, I was just looking for a service like that the other day and now you’ve gone and found it for me. Thanks.
One question, non-Dopplr members get a nice page with some trip info and a ‘Connect’ link when they follow the link in your post. But I can’t for the life of me work out how to make my page look like that to non-Dopplr members — currently they get the fuzzy photo and nothing else. All the privacy settings just make stuff more private — what am I missing ?
You need to edit your public profile – there’s a (perhaps not obvious enough) link on your home page.
Never mind, I’ve found it. It’s the public profile settings under ‘Account’ in case anyone else is confused.
