The Little Gems of SXSW

At any conference, but especially at SXSW, it’s the surprise invites, the unexpected meetings and tiny moments you remember. This year is no different.

I’m in the Blogger Lounge yesterday (which makes an interesting comparison to the official press room, more on that after the event I think) and thinking I need to go back to my hotel room to chill out for half an hour or so before the evening events, when CC Chapman says “ooh, Geoff Smith is in town, I’m off to see him.”

My ears (and Dave Delaney’s) prick up. Looks like the plan is about to change. Grabbing Rynda Laurel on the way, it’s off to the Belmont Lounge and an intensely intimate recording session with Geoff on guitar.

Fantastic.

The fact that the group and I found some Belhaven Ale afterwards, and Geoff and I ended up improvising some a cappella Country and Western music (turns out I can just about pull off a Johnny Cash circa 1968) was just the icing on the cake.
