Ewan’s Guide To Surviving Long Haul

Not that I’m an expert in any way, but pulling an average of three return transatlantic flights a year (plus a number of internal flights in the UK and USA) I’ve built up my own personal notes on how to survive long haul flights. These all work for me, hopefully it should give you some idea. Sort Out Your Seats and Aircraft Type Unless you’re using the low budget carriers such as Southwest or Easyjet, you’ll be allocated a seat when you book your flight. This seat will have been computer assigned to follow a pattern to fill the aircraft

Sometimes The Gamble Pays Off – America Here I Come

I’ve talked about the planning for the March USA trip previously on the blog. The original impetus was to get to O’Reilly’s Emerging Technology Conference. This grew into doing a bit of podcasting at Etech. And that in turn morphed into The Podcast Network becoming a Media Sponsor for Etech. Now the cost of transatlantic flights meant I had to stay stateside for eight days, so I looked around to see what else I could do. The end result means my itinery now looks like this.. Los Angeles (March 2nd-6th) March 4th: The Razzies (covering for The Movie Show) March

Business Cards Online

I’ve ordered a new set of business cards, as discussed in this post. Thanks for all your input, so I’ve fixed the mobile number to be a true international format, and added in my Skype address (which is ewanspence if you’re interested). To go along with this, I’ve added a mini-card on the sidebar of the blog with my skype, email and mobile numbers. I’ve kept it as a graphic as opposed to text, because I wanted it to have some synergy with the business card that I’ll be passing out in March.

SXSW Photo Rejection

Bah Humbugs, Ewan, The photograph you uploaded to the SXSW Online Registrant Directory was unnacceptable for the following reason: We’re not printing a lego on your badge. Please feel free to visit https://regdir.sxsw.com/ to upload a photograph that meets the stated requirements. Don’t they realise that the Lego Ewan (see the website’s top banner for one example) is even more identifiable than my picture?

Taking The Gamble: The ‘March in America’ Airline Tickets Bought

At some point, you always need to make a decision. My March trip to America is currently giving me lots of decisions one after the other. The plan (as you may recall) is to attend four Tech/IT conferences (BarCampLA, ETech, SXSW and Mix06) between March 2nd and March 23rd. As well as being at these conferences for my own information, research and contact building, I’ll also cover them for The Podcast Network’s Tech Confernece show, much like I covered the Edinburgh Fringe, although I’m looking at 40 shows, which is twice as many as the Fringe, in the same time
