R.I.P Mashuptown.com – the best Mashup Podcast Around

Although they’re not saying why, given the interest of the Dutch and the RIAA, The Mashuptown.com podcast was always living on borrowed time bandwith. And so it comes to pass that there’s a note up today that it’ll be closing down, the archive will be removed, and th-th-th-that’s all folks. Bah. The first music podcast (that wasn’t my own) that I checked out for updates. No longer there. If only the music industry realised they could charge double for Mashups because they are two songs, rather than you’re killing the artistic vision of this pre-packaged Britney track. Humbugs!!!

TPN Rock != Tartan Podcast

Just to make sure everyone is completely clear about this… I, Ewan Spence (on the left in the pic above) do TPN Rock (The Rock Show on The Podcast Network), an indie music podcast from Scotland, while Mark Hunter (on the right in the pic above) does The Tartan Podcast (Podshow), an indie music podcast from Scotland. The BAFTA Went to the BBC Gaelic Website

‘Subject says it all, but I’m not to dissappointed. Having a BAFTA nomination for the podcast is nine tenths of the way for podcasting to be accepted into the mainstream. While it would have been the icing on the cke to have that final step of the actual award, I think this is yet another area where TPN and myself have notched up another podcasting first. While I was in the USA (and having just flown back this post is a bit shorter than you might be expecting) the Emmy’s announced a category that appears made for podcasting. So now

I’m Nominated For A BAFTA!!!

WWWWWWWOOOOOOOooooooooo!!! The Edinburgh Fringe Podcast has ben nominated for this year’s Scottish BAFTA’s in the Best Interactive Media category. I am so so over the moon with this! Make no mistake this nomination is a massive thing, not just for myself, but for The Podcast Network and podcasting as a whole. It’s not in some awards room off the main show, it’s at the same level as Best Film, Best Director, Best Drama, etc. They all get awarded at the same ceremony (Sunday 13th November), with the same award, and… it’s a BAFTA!!! Can you tell I’m excited? On a

Podcasting for a Living and Financing Your Shows

I think the worst thing about podcasting is this – when you get popular, you have to pay more to produce a show. Very few other markets have this “inverse to success” relationship, and that makes it tricky. As with any business (and while podcasting is mostly a hobby to many people, it still has financial implications, ergo to me it’s a business) you can source money from a few sources. 1) Your own pocket 2) A third party 3) The listener Now 1) is what most people will do till their ‘cast takes off and traffic starts to get
