Debunking The PodShow Contract

One of this week’s podcast episodes of Keith and the Girl rips into the Podshow contract, and it’s pretty painful. And not just becuase of what the contract says, but because the viewpoint taken by the hosts is a particularly vicious ‘for the comedy’ tone. Actually, back up one, if you look at the contract from a business persepective yes there are one or two flowery bits, but I can’t see anything that I wouldn’t expect to read in a contract from an organisation such as Podshow. So to hear the non-competition clause getting booted because it does what it

Mark Hunter and The Mellow Monday Show, Now on The Podcast Network

A long time ago A few months back, in a galaxy a part of Strathclyde far far away a few miles away from Edinburgh, Mark Hunter decided to leave Adam Curry and Podshow to run the Tartan Podcast. At the time I posted my thoughts on the decision, as did Mark. His reason at the time for leaving? …I wasn’t happy with the direction the company was moving in, was unable to open a dialogue with them about my concerns, the vibe that was created when I joined last June wasn’t sustained (sadly), and while there are some great, passionate,

Ricky, Ricky, Ricky… Podcasting ‘Legend’ Gervais Jumps The Shark

Trumped as the biggest UK Podcast by a comedian, the Ricky Gervais Podast did very well for The Guardian newspaper, and the 13 episodes are still freely available around the internt. With one of the top podcast in iTunes, and about three million downloads, Gervais certainly rose very quickly thanks to his star name, UK media interest, and having material that many people actually find funny. A quick disclaimer, I’m not a fan of Gervais, I don’t find him funny, but I’m glad his podcast got more people interested via the halo effect he had. But today could very well

iWhoring The Podcast Network on iTunes

This single screenshot of the current front page of the iTunes Music Store (podcast section) should explain why I’m happy. Yes, not only can I stand up in a room and say “Hello, my name is Ewan Spence and I make money from podcasting,” I can now add “and I can get a reply from ITMS when I ask about podcasting.” Both phrases of course which any podcaster with some dedication could achieve, but (perhaps wrongly) both of these are percieved as being difficult to achieve. Which means I may know the reality, but I’ll traded on percieved value.

My Year Of Podcasting

Okay so I missed writing this post on the exact one-year anniversary of my first public podcast, but given that the date of that first show was the 14th of February, I’m going to simply say I was busy. That first show was part of the short lived “The Mobile Show.” While it proved a great grounding in the mechanics of production, it diluted my work on “All About Symbian” to such an extent that I had to call a halt. But, never fear, because around the corner was TPN Rock – and you all know how that turned out.

TPN Rock #43 – With Added Doctor Who Goodies

Oooh TPN Rock #43 is a good one this week. I mean, they’re all good, but there are some shows that once I listen back to them just work really well, with a good mix of music, decent chat. #43 is one of those that gets an extra special thumbs up. So why is it the mutts nutts? Obviously it’s the music, and the tracks this week are, as usual, ones that I’ve taken time to hunt out. I tend not to fall back on ‘podsafe’ music sites although I do keep an eye on them. My thinking on that
