Trust us, there really are Spitfires buried in the ground

The press team finally admit what everyone suspected. Mr Cundall’s project secured funding from Belarusian video games firm Wargaming Ltd, and British Prime Minister David Cameron secured permission for the dig when he met Burmese President Thein Sein last year. Excavations began at Rangoon International Airport, one of three sites, earlier in January. A press conference, planned for Friday morning, was cancelled by Wargaming Ltd with a spokesman saying he hoped to give more details later. When pressed, the spokesman admitted there are no Spitfires… I can’t help wondering if this is some sort of long-game con played out in the full

Did a turntable.fm user just turn over more cash than turntable.fm?

@ishafer: I’m selling a sponsorship of the Deep Focus Turntable.fm room right now for $100. Any takers? We play your jingle in open DJ spot. @ishafer: Breaking: First ever @turntablefm sponsorship, taken by @turntablefm. RT @seth: @ischafer I’m in. Play "The Theme to M*A*S*H". Send me an invoice. Typical New Yorker, always on the hustle for cash and social media foo. Nice one Ian!

Hustle 2.0 with Android apps and premium rate text messages

From The Other Ewan. I wonder if the app asked the user for ‘control’ over their SMS messages during install and then sent the premium SMS requests itself? It wouldn’t surprise me. This is a lot worse than the standard scams that rely on a poorly worded advert in some newspaper to sort-of trick unwitting consumers. Somebody actually *programmed* an app to deliberately hose people. This is why companies like Apple and Nokia want to have the approval process on the applications in their smartphone eco-systems (and it’ll make good copy for the anti-virus developers as well).
