Mid Moves Podcast

You may recall during January I spent a week travelling with a number of Intel based Mobile Internet Devices (MID). Along with three other bloggers, the Mid Moves project proved to be a substantial hit… so much so that there’ll be a replay during SXSW interactive. One thing we did do as a team was record a podcast at the end of our tour, which is now live. In it myself, Nicole Simon, Jenn Lee and Steve Paine discuss MID’s, look back at the tour, and talk about the future of the devices. After The Edinburgh Twestival

Okay, so the bottom line first… the Edinburgh Twestival (on the night) raised just short of £3,500, which I think is a fantastic total. There are still some auction prizes and other bits you can be involved in so head over to the website. I was MC for the night, and given the crowd this was a new challenge for me – after all you cant rehearse jokes about Twitter, Facebook and Fail-Whales in a regular comedy club, and as the event kept pretty much to time and there weren’t a huge number of complaints from the audience I’ll score

Why Five Mintues With… is frustrating me.

Just spotted this over on the BBC News website, a series of 5 minute interview with various people, chaired by Matthew Stadlen. They’ve just posted one for Michael Portillo, and it’s left me feeling a little bit… cheated. It’s clear that a lot of preparation has been done by Stadlen on his subjects, and I can’t see any notes or list of questions, but there seems to be one thing missing in these interviews, and that is listening to the answers. The Michael Portillo interview is a good point here; partly because Portillo gives such short answers and Stadlen has

How To Prepare For ‘Spontaneous’ Interviews

Mixing up the regular posts I do over at the Creative Choices Blog, and my coverage of the Edinburgh Fringe, I’ve been talking there this week about how I prepare for my interviews… the ones that sound rather scattershot and improvised, but still get to the point in the time needed… Many years ago, while doing some work at a local talk radio station, I was told by the lead presenter one of the lessons that was passed on to him… “preparation, dear boy, preparation, that is the key.” It’s a rule that I certainly take to heart, and one
