If you’re going to do a podcast, do it with some self-esteem

Marco Arment looks at how just a few tweaks can polish a podcast from ‘two people on Skype’ into something with a bit more class and potential: Just as blogs need sensible fonts, colors, layouts, and spacing to be comfortably readable, podcasts need to be listenable. Copy the app all you like, rule one is still ‘the content is king’

Even if you copy Marco Arment’s ‘Magazine’ app, you aren’t copying what makes it a magazine that works: The app is secondary — it’s just a container. I’m not going to get a meaningful number of new subscribers because I add a new setting or theme… And there aren’t any startups promising a turn-key supply of great content that attracts enough paying subscribers to fund it. You’re on your own for that.
