More Tips on How To Travel Without Loosing Your Mind

Vero’s posted some great tips on how to travel; I assume as the UK to USA flights for SXSW (yes that gig again) starts to prey on her mind, as it may well do on others. I’ve had a post here for a long time on surviving long-haul flights, but let me add some more tips on how to get through your flight (by lifting Vero’s categories). Before You Fly Register for your airline’s frequent flyer program, and check if they have a fast-track qualification program for their status levels. Log onto the airline website, and consult Seatguru to get

How To Do SXSW Interactive On A Budget That’s A Close To Zero As Possible

There’s a lot of talk online at the moment about the big Austin conference, South by Southwest. Naturally with the online crowds I hang around at online, the Interactive part of SXSW has gained credibility over the last few years. Let’s be honest, taking out 5 days for the conference, and a day or two extra for travel, is not a small undertaking. With a Film conference running side by side with Interactive, and the Music people coming into tow, it takes planning to a good hotel and all the other paraphernalia sorted for an easy trip. But what if

Dopplr’s Personal Annual Reports Go Viral

A nice touch from Dopplr, the social network that collates your journeys around the world (such as visiting conferences like SXSW), lets you know which of your friends will be close to you when travelling, and then doing interesting thing with your data. Their latest one, an Annual Report for an individual traveller, looks at your data for 2008 and brings out some fun facts along the useful stuff…. I travelled 18% of the distance to the moon. I spent 52 days travelling. I spent most of my travelling time in Austin. I used 79% of the carbon that a

One Sensible Tip for SXSW Travellers

While my big tip (go to all three SXSW events) will probably be pushed aside with thoughts of the extra cost, there is one thing that travellers from outside the USA heading to Austin for one of the largest cultural conferences should take note of. Those of you travelling on the Visa Waiver system to the USA will have been used to the delightfully green form you get handed as you board your flight to the New Country. This has been replaced with an electronic version of the form that has to be filled in 72 hours or more before

Off To Las Vegas and BlogWorldExpo

I’m writing this in the American Airlines Lounge at Heathrow, after the first leg of the trip to Las Vegas. Edinburgh to Heathrow just proves Terminal 5, and specifically transfers from T5 to T3 (where the American flights are) is pretty hellish, and much worse than T1 to T3 ever was (and I have to say I think today’s transfer went very smooth). Anyway, from here it’s on to Dallas, then into Las Vegas. Should be getting in around 8pm local time, and after stopping off to freshen up at the Excalibur Hotel, I’ll be heading to the TechSet party.
